This year, due to the loss of our building to fire, most of the festivities have moved a little down the road to the old Singleton building on Highway 93, a beautiful, historic structure with loads of character including a soaring ceiling and time-worn wooden floors. Going Green!

by Frederick L'ecole Des Arts on 09/08/10

I received an email today Collin Bercier of Louisiana Solar Solutions offering to donate solar panels for the rebuilding of Frederick l'Ecole des Arts / NUNU's.  It takes my breath away to realize the generosity of the Louisiana community.  Collin will be working with a team of architects and designers who have already volunteered their time to help us design a new facility.

Thank you!!!!

PHOENIX RISING--SAVE NUNU'S Benefit at the Blue Moon Saloon

by Frederick L'ecole Des Arts on 08/22/10

Come and help us celebrate the PHOENIX RISING--SAVE NUNU'S Benefit at the Blue Moon Saloon

Photo: SAVE NUNU's original art piece created by Kelly Guidry

Just because a fire destroyed the Town Market Rural Arts Centre, the heart of cultural activity in rural Acadiana, it doesn’t mean that the party is over, Lakeview RV Park and Beach and the Blue Moon Saloon along with an enviable list of supporters including visual and performing artists have come together to bring to you the SAVE NUNU's Benefit.  "The fire at Nu Nu's is not only a loss to the Marks family and the town of Arnaudville, but an amputation of creativity for our entire culture. At first site of the destruction, I was overwhelmed with a sense of grief not only towards George and his family but also in relation to my own fears. This could happen to me. Mark Falgout and Jim Phillips had similar feelings about Nu Nu's situation. We all felt an obligation towards the fallen venue, understanding the tremendous investment involved in a business as such, yet unable to comprehend the level of loss.” says event coordinator Toby Rodriguez.

On Sunday, August 29, 4pm-Midnight, you'll get a healthy serving of great musical performances by Horace Trahan and the Ossun Express, Celjun, Joe Hall and the Louisiana Cane Cutters, Ryan Brunet & les Malfecteurs, Bonsoir Catin, Cedric Watson and Bijou Creole.  Signature food items from NUNU's will be available for purchase.  Kelly Guidry's beautiful piece will be auctioned off along with a bevy of other art pieces.  $10 Donation.

Phoenix Rising Membership Campaign

by Frederick L'ecole Des Arts on 07/27/10

We have been bombarded with offers. Becoming a member of Frederick l'Ecole des Arts is the most important thing that you can do right now.

I do want everyone to know that we will rebuild and that we are diligently working at assembling a team comprised of local, regional and state level representatives including, but not limited to, Gwen Richard of the ACA, Kelly Pepper of Louisiana Division of the Arts and Gaye Hamilton of Louisiana Cultural Districts. The team will address a plan for fund raising specific to compensating artists for their work, securing programs and rebuilding and, is being headed by Jill Hackney, President of Frederick l'Ecole des Arts.

There are a multitude of fund raising opportunities that will be taking place over the next year specific to the non-profit component, Frederick. This is the organization responsible for providing for music to be heard and art to be seen within the Town Market/NUNU's facility. It is also the organization responsible for the majority of special events. In regards to this disaster, when you help Frederick's, you are ultimately helping Town Market/NUNU's. Furthermore, when you help Frederick's, you are helping the whole of Louisiana.

What you can do right now to begin making a difference is join Frederick l'Ecole des Arts ( www.frederick-arts.org). Simply click on the DONATE button and then follow instructions.

Also, send your name, phone number, email address and your specialty area to me. Our friends over at Cutural Development are assembling a list of friends wanting to help with rebuilding efforts.

And if you would like to help other organizations that support our efforts...please join the Acadiana Center for the Arts, Louisiana Partnership for the Arts, the Cultural Economy Foundation and Americans for the Arts. All of these organizations play a huge part in promoting, perpetuating and propagating healthy cultural habitats--like the one in Arnaudville.

And, if there is a business, venue or studio in your neighborhood that you haven't been to or purchased from in awhile, please take the time and invest in what they do.

Finally, I also want each of you to know that we are dedicated to keeping cultural development alive and well in Arnaudville. Russell's food center will allow the use of Steeple Vue Gallery and Women of Culture, also in Arnaudville has donated use of their facility for future events as well. We are also in the process of securing temporary teaching, cafe' and studio facilities here in town. We will also work with our cultural partners, the Coffee Break in Breaux Bridge and Casa Azul in Grand Coteau in order to accommodate additional programming opportunities.

Please contact Jill Hackney, President of Frederick l'Ecole des Arts for additional information, ideas, volunteer opportunities and sponsorship--225-205-3987 or jillhackneyartist@gmail.com.
